AKB DESIGN
AKB is an independent design firm owned by myself, Ann Wolinsky. I’m based in West Hartford, Connecticut, and serve the Greater Hartford area, offering complete design and renovation services. I can also help you furnish your new space.
My work in kitchens and baths led to opportunities to renovate mud rooms, laundry areas and eventually entire homes.
My approach to projects is the same whether I’m renovating a whole house or a powder room, and whether you’ve contracted me for design only, or for design and build.

CREATE
I begin each project with discovery—an exercise to understand your desires and unique style. I observe how you live where the clutter happens; where the kids play; where the pets eat, traffic patterns; and gathering spots. My goal is to present you with a timeless, beautiful design that considers your lifestyle and your vision. I will draft floor plans and can show you computer-generated 3-D images of the design so you can “feel” the new space from many different angles.
Implementation begins only when you are 100% satisfied that the plan I present honors both your vision and your budget.
COLLECT
Depending on your preference, I can select materials for your project or we can shop together. Choices today are overwhelming—whether it be in cabinetry, countertops, hardware, lighting, tile, plumbing fixtures etc. I will help you navigate through the options to quality products that will fit the budget and achieve the look you envisioned.
CONSTRUCT
In the 18 years that I have been in the business I’ve built valuable relationships with trusted contractors. When it comes time to build you have the option of working with my contractors, or if you prefer, I will work with yours. Either way, you can be assured that I will oversee every detail throughout the duration of the project.
RECOGNITION
I am honored to have been asked to participate in the Junior League of Hartford Show House in 2012, 2015 and 2018. Show House is a highly anticipated fund-raising event that occurs every three years.
Hartford Magazine is a well-respected publication in my service area. I am pleased to have had my work recognized in two feature articles and multiple mentions.

A beautiful new fireplace is the focal point of this family room transformation. A deep hollow space discovered in the demolition phase presented an unexpected opportunity for a recessed bookcase.
